Privacy at Propel

How we handle information and how to reach us about yours.

Last updated 5 October 2026

Who we are

Propel Africa is operated by PROPEL AFRICA TECHNOLOGIES Ltd, based in Kigali, Rwanda. We are responsible for personal information used in our directory and account services. Contact privacy@propel.africa with privacy questions or requests about your information.

Information we use

For access requests and accounts, we collect your email, name where provided, account type and sign-in information. We keep saved profiles, profile-access requests, submitted updates, support correspondence and the records needed to review them.

The directory includes company and professional information, such as founder names, roles, professional links and funding activity. It comes from published sources, previously compiled research and submitted updates. Approved profile content is visible to people browsing Propel; account emails and Watchlists are not public profile fields.

Our hosting and security systems process technical information such as network and request details and error logs. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information or private details that are unnecessary for your request.

Why we use it

We use information to manage invitations and accounts, provide saved profiles, review profile access and updates, answer requests, send service emails and protect the platform. Professional directory information helps people discover startups, investors and recorded funding activity.

Our grounds depend on the purpose: providing the service you request, legitimate interests in a useful and accurate professional directory and service security, legal obligations, or consent where required. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing.

Account fields marked as required are needed for those account features. Requesting access does not subscribe you to a newsletter. Our team reviews invitation and profile-access decisions.

Providers and overseas processing

Amazon Web Services provides our hosting, storage and authentication. Our admin tools can also use AWS Bedrock to help categorise or summarise directory information, including professional names and profile details. Resend sends invitation and other service emails, including support notifications. If you choose Google sign-in, Google supplies basic identity information; we do not request access to your Gmail messages. Company icons may load from Google’s favicon service, which receives ordinary technical request information.

Our main application infrastructure is in the United Kingdom. Resend sends our invitations through its Ireland region but stores service data in the United States. Google and other infrastructure services may process information internationally. Providers receive information needed for their roles. We may also disclose information when legally required or necessary to address misuse or protect rights.

We use access controls and encrypt connections to the service and data stored in our application database. Contact us for information about the providers and safeguards relevant to your data. This notice does not make the service confidential: information approved for directory publication is intended to be shared.

Cookies and browser storage

We use essential cookies for sign-in, invitation access and security. Sign-in cookies last up to seven days; invitation and private-preview cookies up to fourteen days. Temporary sign-in state helps protect the login process.

Recent searches may stay in your browser until cleared. Selected non-secret form drafts use tab storage for recovery and expire after twelve hours when the draft store is next used. Browser settings let you clear this storage; blocking essential cookies can prevent sign-in. We do not use advertising cookies in this beta.

Retention and account closure

Retention depends on the purpose of the record: providing an active account, resolving a claim or request, maintaining accurate directory information, protecting the service or meeting legal obligations. Moderation, security and dispute records may remain after account access ends. Backups and provider records have separate retention cycles.

Deactivating an account in Settings stops access; it does not automatically erase stored records. An invitation’s expiry also does not delete its request history. To request erasure, contact us. Independently sourced business information may remain in the directory, subject to applicable rights and correction requests.

Your choices and rights

You can update your name in Settings and submit changes to profiles you manage. You do not need an account or a successful profile claim to raise a privacy concern.

Subject to applicable law, you can request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of personal information, or object to its use. Email privacy@propel.africa with the relevant profile link or account email and what you would like us to review. We may need proportionate identity checks and will explain any information we must retain.

You may complain to Rwanda’s Data Protection and Privacy Office or another competent regulator. We will update this notice when practices change and bring material changes to your attention where appropriate.
