Startup Researcher reported on 18 November that Wahu Mobility has received fresh investment from Sahara Impact Ventures, a climate-focused venture capital firm. The amount was not disclosed.
What the company does
Wahu designs and assembles electric bicycles in Ghana, adapted to African road conditions. It also runs leasing and fleet programmes that help businesses such as logistics firms replace petrol motorcycles, and offers technology-enabled fleet management and rider support. The business began as a retrofit concept for converting conventional bicycles to electric. It traces its lineage to Cargo Bikes Africa, founded in 2020, which merged with MANA Mobility and was rebranded as Wahu. Valerie Labi, founder of Cargo Bikes Africa, is named as founder.
Plans
Sahara's investment team forecasts that Africa's electric two-wheeler market will grow from about $554.7 million in 2023 to about $2.61 billion by 2031. The company plans to deploy more than 117,000 e-bikes across Ghana by 2030. Its e-bike programme is authorised under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement by the governments of Ghana and Switzerland. The new funding will scale production and finance additional e-bikes, with potential expansion to other African markets.
