South African lending infrastructure startup Kuunda has completed a US$5 million secondary share sale led by E4E Africa, Disrupt Africa reports. In a secondary sale, existing shareholders sell some of their shares, so the money goes to early backers rather than into the company. This is not a new funding round for Kuunda.

E4E Africa has increased its stake through the deal. Existing investors Accion Ventures, Portugal Gateway Fund and Seedstars Africa Ventures also added to their positions, according to the report. Kuunda says the sale gives its early backers a meaningful return, and shows that African fintech companies can create liquidity for shareholders before an IPO or acquisition.

Founded in 2018, Kuunda works with mobile money operators, point-of-sale networks, e-commerce companies and banks to build credit products into their platforms, using data to score borrowers. Its customers are mobile money agents, merchants and consumers. The company says its infrastructure has disbursed more than 870 million loans, worth over US$4.4 billion, to 14.6 million borrowers. It is live in five markets and plans to launch in seven more.

E4E Africa also took part in Kuunda's US$7.5 million pre-Series A round, reported in October 2025.
