Luno, the UK-based digital asset platform, has bought GTXN, a Kenyan cross-border payments startup, Disrupt Africa reported on 12 October. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 2022, GTXN handles collections and payouts on payment routes between developed and emerging economies, and holds licences for regulated cross-border transfers. Its founder, Dan Kleinbaum, will stay on as chief executive. He previously co-founded the mobile money startup Beyonic, which he sold to Onafriq.

Luno, which was founded in 2013 and is part of Digital Currency Group, lets customers buy, store and manage digital assets, and has been adding services for institutions. It says it has more than 15 million customers.

The deal gives Luno licensed rails for moving money into and out of these markets, which it plans to offer business clients as a single settlement service. GTXN will become the group's cross-border payments arm. Luno chief executive James Lanigan said clients would get "one provider for the whole flow".
