Ollo Africa, a Togolese fintech, has increased its share capital from 68 million to 1 billion CFA francs, about $1.8 million, Financial Afrik reported on 3 February. Togolese and American business angels joined the founding shareholders in the capital increase. They include American business angel Sophia Boyer. The amount raised in the capital increase was not disclosed.
What Ollo Africa does
The company digitises traditional collective savings and lending groups, such as tontines, while keeping their social function, through its Ohana Africa platform. It is a Togolese limited company approved by the BCEAO, the Central Bank of West African States. Boyer called that approval and a partnership with Ecobank decisive competitive advantages. Mawuna Koutonin is chief executive.
Ambitions
Ollo Africa wants to become the leading digital collective savings platform in the UEMOA region, starting from Togo. Koutonin said: "This capital increase represents a turning point for Ollo Africa."
How the funds will be used
The money will pay for a major customer acquisition campaign in Togo, technology development for Ohana Africa including new features, partnerships with microfinance institutions, trade chambers and community organisations, stronger teams and financial education initiatives for target communities.
