Noma Services has secured a $650,000 structured debt package from the Social Enterprise Fund for Agriculture in Africa (SEFAA), Africa Investor Review reported on 15 September. SEFAA is managed by Sahel Capital, a specialist agricultural investment manager.

The package comes in two parts. A $400,000 working capital tranche will fund seasonal crop buying and daily operations, and a $250,000 capital expenditure tranche will pay for equipment and upgrades to aggregation and processing.

From farm gate to factory

Based in Abuja, Noma Services aggregates and processes staple crops, including rice, maize, sorghum and beans, and supplies major consumer goods companies. It sources from more than 11,000 smallholder farmers, and has shifted its model from input financing to direct aggregation.

The company runs central hubs in Mabushi, Niger and Kaduna, with regional distribution points in Kano and Jigawa. It was incorporated in 2021, with roots going back to 2018.

The fund behind it

SEFAA is a $24 million impact fund launched in 2021, with foundational backing from KfW Development Bank. It invests across 13 sub-Saharan African countries. Deji Adebusoye, a partner at Sahel Capital, said the deal supports "connecting over 11,000 smallholder farmers to reliable and well-structured markets".
