Nesa Power has secured R150 million, about $9 million, in mezzanine debt from Maia Capital Partners, Mercom Capital Group reported on 3 July. Covington & Burling acted as legal counsel to Maia.
What Nesa Power does
Nesa Power Group is a South Africa-based commercial and industrial renewable energy company. It develops integrated solutions that combine solar generation and battery storage, sold under long-term power purchase agreements. The aim is to lower customers' electricity costs, improve reliability and cut emissions, with both on-site and off-site generation and storage on offer.
Where it stands
The company says it has developed and built more than 46 MW of solar capacity, alongside 6.5 MWh of battery storage. It has invested in and operates more than 70 commercial and industrial solar PV assets under PPA structures. Through its managed funds it has raised more than R400 million, or about $24 million.
What the debt is for
The growth capital will be used to acquire further solar PV assets and expand the PPA portfolio. "This investment materially strengthens our ability to execute on the Group’s growth strategy," said Percy Ying, co-founder and group chief investment officer.
