Moniepoint has raised a further $90 million, completing a $200 million round. Visa is named as a strategic investor and LeapFrog Investments also took part, Launch Base Africa reported on 21 October.

How the round came together

The $90 million is the second part of the raise. An earlier $110 million tranche was led by Development Partners International and backed by Alphabet's Google Africa Investment Fund. Launch Base Africa says the new money keeps Moniepoint's valuation above $1 billion, so it remains a unicorn. The Visa partnership is expected to strengthen Moniepoint's capabilities and could lead to new merchant products.

What Moniepoint does

The company provides financial services to small businesses and individuals, including digital bank accounts, low-collateral loans and point-of-sale terminals. Tosin Eniolorunda is the chief executive and founded the business in 2015 with Felix Ike. Moniepoint processes more than one billion transactions a month, with total monthly payment volume above $22 billion.

Plans beyond Nigeria

The funds are meant to speed up expansion across Africa. Moniepoint has acquired UK-based Bancom Europe to secure a UK financial institution licence and Sumac MFB to obtain a Kenyan microfinance licence, and Kenya is named as a key target for regional expansion. "The opportunities that exist in Nigeria also exist in multiple countries," said Tosin Eniolorunda, chief executive of Moniepoint, earlier in 2025.
