Moment has raised $22 million in a Series A round led by AlphaCode Venture Partners. Technext24 reported on 4 August that existing investors General Catalyst and Multichoice continued their backing, while Canal+ joined as a new investor. The round takes the company's total funding to $55 million.
What Moment does
Moment provides payment infrastructure for large African businesses. Its tools include omni-channel collection, embedded financial services and the locally preferred payment methods of each market. The platform is designed to keep working during power outages or network drops. The company is described as pan-African and launched three years ago. Joel Yarbrough is its CEO.
Traction
Moment processes 600,000 transactions a day and serves 10 million people a month. Its in-person acceptance network covers more than two million physical locations.
Plans
The company will use the funding to deepen its network, improve its platform and speed up its expansion across the continent, as it serves large businesses that need payments to keep working through power and network disruptions.
