Miale Solar Inventions, a Swedish-Kenyan renewable energy company, has announced €5 million in credit financing from Hivos-Triodos Fonds. The deal was brokered with Trine, the Sweden-based crowdfunding platform.
The company says the money will fund a further 9 MW of rooftop and ground-mounted solar over the next 6 to 12 months. It will go towards Power Purchase Agreements and lease-to-own projects, which let Kenyan clients install solar without paying upfront.
Eric Mwenda, Miale Solar's Chief Financial Officer, said timely capital is crucial to its Energy-as-a-Service and PPA models, under which it finances, builds and maintains systems while customers pay over long-term contracts.
Miale Solar named healthcare as a key focus, and plans to add battery storage to its systems to give facilities a more reliable supply than the grid.
