MAX, also known as Metro Africa Xpress, has raised $8 million in debt funding from Triple Jump, WeeTracker reported on 13 May. Triple Jump is a Netherlands-based impact investor. Verdant IMAP, a pan-African investment bank, was the sole financial advisor and arranger. The deal is one of MAX's first international institutional debt raises.

What MAX does

MAX is an electric mobility platform that provides electric vehicles, battery-swapping infrastructure and pay-as-you-go financing for commercial drivers. It also offers IoT-enabled fleet management and embedded finance. The company grew out of a bike-hailing operation in Nigeria, which has since been discontinued. Adetayo Bamiduro and Chinedu Azodoh founded it in 2015.

Markets and plans

MAX operates in Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon. The new debt will go towards fleet expansion, the rollout of battery swapping and platform development.
