Goswap, a Casablanca-based electric mobility startup, has secured its first seed funding from Azur Innovation Fund, Wamda reported on 26 March. The amount was not disclosed. The company is targeting a broader raise of more than $2 million (MAD 20 million or more) to support regional expansion.
Batteries as a service
Goswap runs a battery-as-a-service model for electric scooters. Users buy scooters without batteries and swap depleted batteries for charged ones at smart swap stations in under 10 seconds. Hamza Slimani founded the company in 2023.
Network and costs
Goswap has deployed 20 connected battery swap stations in Casablanca, located at CashPlus, Petrom and Shell outlets. Operating costs run at about MAD 25 to 29.4 per 100 km, and the company claims a reduction of up to 60% in operating costs.
Plans
The funding will go towards expanding infrastructure in Casablanca and into new cities such as Marrakech. Goswap also wants to improve compatibility across more electric vehicle models and strengthen fleet management for logistics and last-mile delivery companies. It has its eye on North Africa and the wider African region.
