Google has selected ten African game studios for the first edition of its Google Play Indie Games Fund in Africa, a $1 million pool of non-dilutive funding announced on 28 October 2026.
Each studio receives a share of the fund. Google did not publish individual amounts, so Propel records each award as an undisclosed grant.
Four of the studios are in South Africa: Clockwork Acorn, Disputed People, Studio Bo and Vetkoek Studios. Four are in Nigeria: Deluxe Entertainment Studios, Fer Factor, Gazuntype Entertainment and Maliyo Games. Leti Games is in Ghana and Weza Interactive in Kenya.
Games rarely show up in Africa's funding records, which are dominated by fintech, energy and mobility. A grant from a platform owner is a different kind of first cheque: it carries no equity, and it comes with the distribution these studios need to reach players.
Every studio now has a profile on Propel Africa, with this award recorded and linked to Google.
