Innovation Village reported on 3 November that EDFI ElectriFi has reinvested $1 million in Gogo Electric. The initiative is backed by the European Union and focuses on clean energy access in emerging markets. It follows an initial commitment of $1.6 million in 2022 and brings its total backing of the company to $2.6 million.

What the company does

GOGO Electric runs a battery-swap network for electric motorcycles in Uganda. Riders exchange depleted batteries for charged ones at stations, and the service targets boda boda riders, who are a major part of Uganda's transport system. The company expects the funding to boost its battery production capacity, so it can deploy more electric motorcycles.

What the money is for

The new funding will go towards increasing battery production and expanding swap station coverage in key urban centres. It will also pay for deploying more electric motorcycles and strengthening logistics and maintenance operations. Parth Shah, chief financial officer of GOGO Electric, said the investment "is proof that GOGO Electric is on the right path to electrify Uganda’s public transport".
