Flowt, a Kenyan fintech, has reached the first close of its pre-Seed round, African-Startups reported on 15 July. The amount was not disclosed. Impacc is an impact investor, Delta40 incubated Flowt from idea stage to MVP launch, and the Argidius Foundation provided grant funding. Impacc is also providing a loan to help the company win its first customers.
What Flowt does
Flowt operates an AI-powered financing platform that gives working capital to climate-smart small businesses, using verified financial data instead of asset collateral. It integrates with accounting software and analyses banking and mobile money transactions for lenders. The company plans an AI accounting platform that produces IFRS-aligned financial statements. Elana Laichena is founder and CEO, and Handel Dan Owour is CTO.
Early progress
Flowt has tested its platform with more than 15 potential borrowers and identified a pre-qualified pipeline of between $1 million and $2 million in loan demand. Impacc describes it as pre-revenue. The pilot focuses on green manufacturing, climate-smart agricultural processing, distributed renewable energy and clean cooking.
Plans
The money will expand the loan book, strengthen the technology and deploy the first loans, with a target of up to $1 million in loans by the end of 2026. A second close is planned, along with raising debt and repayable grants.
