Disrupt Africa reported on 6 November that Enzi Mobility has agreed an investment deal with Kula, a blockchain-enabled impact investment firm focused on frontier markets. The package is worth about $3.5 million: $2 million in equity funding plus a $1.5 million in-kind contribution of Kula's blockchain technology stack.
What the company does
Enzi Mobility is an electric mobility company offering affordable e-motorbikes and battery-swapping infrastructure. Its focus is clean urban transport in Kenya and East Africa. Bill Schafer is CEO.
How the deal works
Kula's investment is staged and tied to commercial and operational milestones. Kula will help Enzi build a real-time impact dashboard tracking environmental, social and governance indicators. The dashboard will serve investors, regulators and community stakeholders. Chris Turner, co-founder and group director of Kula, said the partnership exemplifies what Kula was built to do. Kula will also help create and roll out two digital tokens: $ENZI, a voting token that gives riders, staff and community members a say in company decisions, and $BODA, a rewards token offering benefits to riders.
