Djamo has secured a $3.5 million debt investment, with Symbiotics facilitating the deal, according to a Symbiotics announcement dated 8 October. Symbiotics describes itself as a market access platform for impact investing.
What Djamo does
Djamo operates a pan-African digital financial platform. It offers Visa cards, virtual accounts, local and international payments, instant transfers, bill payments, budgeting tools, savings vaults and investments. Hassan Bourgi, chief executive and founder, and co-founder Régis Bamba started the company in 2019. Fewer than 25% of adults in Francophone Africa hold a bank account, according to the announcement.
Who it serves
The company was founded in Côte d'Ivoire, which remains its main market, and it also serves Senegal, with regional expansion across Francophone Africa. About 50% of its users were previously unbanked, and about 60% are getting their first bank card.
What the loan is for
The financing will support expansion and enhanced service offerings in Côte d'Ivoire and accelerate the rollout of Djamo's financial solutions. "This financing is fully aligned with Djamo's growth strategy," said Hassan Bourgi, chief executive and founder of Djamo.
