ChipMango, a semiconductor design company that trains engineers in Nigeria, has raised $1.9 million in seed funding, The Condia reported on 1 September. Atlantica Ventures led the round, with participation from DFS Lab, Madica, Kaleo Ventures, Trilinear Technologies and Malta Ventures, a government-backed fund.

Building chip design talent

ChipMango's model has two parts. The company trains engineers in Nigeria through its own curriculum, and it uses that talent to deliver chip design work for international clients. It says it has already delivered production-grade work for global customers.

The training arm is backed by partnerships with Miva Open University, Obafemi Awolowo University and the University of Lagos.

ChipMango was founded in 2022 by chief executive Ola Fadiran and Jovan Andjelich. Between them, the founders have worked at Tesla, Google, Intel and Boeing.

"The next era of AI will not be defined by software alone," Fadiran said.

Plans for the round

The company already operates across Africa, Europe and the US. The seed funding will expand its engineering and product teams in all three regions. A design centre in Malta is in the pipeline, and the company is planning initiatives in Rwanda covering semiconductor capability, workforce development and AI infrastructure.
