AethexAI has raised $3 million in a Pre-Seed round led by 4DX Ventures, TechCrunch reported on 3 June. Enza Capital, Dorm Room Fund, Mojo Ventures and the Stanford GSB 26 Fund took part, along with individuals including Stanford faculty, telecom executives and AI researchers from Anthropic.
What AethexAI builds
Founded last year, AethexAI makes voice AI for markets such as Africa and the Middle East. It has trained its own small models, the Kora series, which range from 300 million to 1.7 billion parameters, plus an orchestration layer covering English, French and Arabic dialects. Its main uses so far are debt collection, customer activation and know-your-customer checks. The company has launched an enterprise platform, with APIs and SDKs for developers.
The founders and the data
Mariama Diallo is chief executive and previously worked at Goldman Sachs and ModelML. Ayooluwa Odemuyiwa is chief technology officer and previously worked at Meta. The company trains on anonymised call centre recordings, audio from radio stations across Africa and annotation by a network of university students. Diallo said: "We always tell customers that we cannot be everything for everybody right now."
Traction
AethexAI handles more than 17,000 calls a day. TechCrunch notes the company is hiring forward-deployed engineers on contract and building telecom channel partnerships.
